About Me

Welcome, my name is Amanda, and I'm the owner of Songbird Music Therapy! I am a masters level, board-certified music therapist, specializing in early childhood. I began as a music teacher, quickly realized teaching wasn't going to be where I was happiest, then got my masters and certification in music therapy. I've worked with medically complex patients within the hospital setting, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in private practice, children with a wide variety of special needs in preschools, and typically developing children and their families. I love working with children, love their creativity and adventurous spirits, and I want to support parents and caregivers in developing strategies and environments that support growth!

Little Songbirds Classes

These are highly interactive classes for young children (0-5) and their caregivers. I use all my knowledge of early childhood to create a musical environment in which children can play, discover, and learn!

Music Therapy Sessions

I offer individual and family-based music therapy sessions. In music therapy sessions, we use music to work on nonmusical goals such as language development, motor skills, engagement, and more!

Birthday Party Entertainment

I can provide 30-45 minutes of interactive musical fun at your child's birthday party! I bring all the instruments and props, as well as a mircrophone and speaker. This is generally best for children 0-5.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is music therapy?

The short answer is that music therapy is the use of music to address nonmusical goals. The longer answer is music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals. Music therapy occurs within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional. Examples of goals are as follows:

  • improve communication (receptive and expressive)

  • increase coping skills

  • increase attention span

  • improve motor skills (gait, range of motion, stretching, etc.)

Do you need music experience?

No, you do not have to have any prior experience with music to participate and enjoy! In classes, I tell caregivers to imitate me as best they can, and some activities are focused on building musical confidence. In music therapy sessions, I meet clients where they are and develop interventions suited to their level and ability.

What does a class look like?

My classes are 45 minutes of singing, playing, and dancing! Young children learn best through play and discovery, so I am very interactive and do my best to engage each child in all the activities. We work on vocalizing and making sounds, moving our bodies different ways, signing and small movement, and so much more! I utilize egg shakers, jingle bells, hand drums, and all sorts of small instruments to offer a variety of sounds and materials for the kids to explore. Children can be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, nanny, or any other caregiver!

What is the cost?

The fees for music therapy services are as follows:

  • 30 minute session - $50

  • 45 minute session - $75

  • 60 minute session - $100

I unfortunately don't take insurance currently, but can provide a superbill for insurance reimbursement.

Pricing for classes can be found on the Classes page here.

Birthday parties are $200 for 30 minutes, $250 for 45 minutes. I require a $50 deposit and signed contract in order to reserve the party date. Please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page to inquire about parties.

My child really loves one song, but I don't know it! Where can I find the songs you use?

I use a mix of familiar and newer songs in my classes, and sometimes caregivers don't know them right away. During COVID, I put almost all of the songs I use in sessions and classes online! You can find songs organized into various playlists on YouTube
